This was a long time coming. I've been bouncing back and forth from my old pseudonym to simply using my name, and have finally decided to settle with just being me for the long haul. Incidentally, this is the first time in my career that I'm running a blog on my portfolio site.
In addition, I decided to go with a no-database solution for a platform. As much as I like Wordpress, I wanted to use something that didn't require jumping into a phpMyadmin interface and was a bit lower maintenance. So I decided to go with Kirby CMS, which did have a bit of a learning curve to it for a more visually oriented guy like me. It was worth it though as I got some remedial PHP training out of the deal. If I had opted for Wordpress this would have been up sooner, but it was good to learn a new CMS.
Accordingly, I've simplified the site design and kept the focus on the content. There's been a lot of talk recently about minimalism, flat-design, and how all of that relates to designers who work on the web, but for the time being this site is going to be clear of visual clutter. I'll be sure to open that can of worms later in a post!
